Why OnlyFans verifies ages
OnlyFans hosts adult content, and laws in many countries require adult sites to make sure users are over 18. In the UK, the Online Safety Act requires “highly effective” age assurance for pornographic content, enforced from 25 July 2025. In the US, a growing number of states have passed age-verification laws for adult websites. Regulators take this seriously: in 2025 Ofcom fined Fenix International, OnlyFans’ operator, £1.05 million for giving inaccurate information about its age checks (its facial-estimation “challenge age” had been set to 20 rather than the 23 it had reported).
Age verification for creators
Every creator must upload a valid government photo ID and take a live selfie before they can earn. Anyone else who appears in a creator’s content must also be verified as an adult. This is separate from, and stricter than, the checks for fans. See OnlyFans creator verification and how to start an OnlyFans.
How it works for fans
- When you sign up or try to view adult content from a location that requires it, OnlyFans asks you to verify your age.
- Facial age estimation: you take a live selfie and software estimates whether you are clearly over the required age. It estimates age; it is not used to identify who you are.
- If the estimate is inconclusive (for example you look close to the threshold), you are asked for an ID document instead.
- Once verified, you can use the platform normally.
Is OnlyFans age verification safe?
Checks are processed by specialist providers whose business is identity and age verification, and UK rules require them to handle data under data-protection law. Providers typically keep only what is needed for the check. No system is risk-free, so only verify through OnlyFans’ own flow on onlyfans.com — never through a link someone sends you, and never on a site that asks for your ID to “unlock” OnlyFans content.
Age verification not working?
- Light: face a window or lamp; avoid backlighting.
- Clear view: remove hats, sunglasses and face coverings; keep your whole face in the frame.
- Camera permission: allow camera access for the browser, or try another browser or device.
- Use the ID option if the selfie estimate keeps failing, with a valid, undamaged document.
- Contact support through the OnlyFans Help Center if it still fails.
OnlyPedia does not provide ways to bypass age verification. The checks exist to protect minors, and getting around them breaks the Terms of Service and, in some places, the law.
